The jean is built in three discrete layers — from the outside in: a premium stretch-denim shell, a continuous DuPont Kevlar® aramid liner, and removable EN 1621-1 Level 2 impact armor in the high-impact zones. Each layer is engineered to do one job. None of the three compromise the other two.

Aramid resists abrasion roughly seven times longer than cotton denim. The whole garment is independently certified at EN 17092 Class AA — the second-highest classification under the standard, one rung below racing leathers.

Removable CE-rated impact armor sits in articulated pockets at the knees and hips. The standard is EN 1621-1 Level 2 — the higher of the two CE armor levels, the one most lifestyle moto brands skip because it costs more. Knee pockets adjust for rider height. Hip armor is included on every size, not just the largest two. Nothing here is sold separately.

The hip armor finally sits where my hip actually is.

Small thing. Huge deal. Every pair I've owned, the hip armor floats somewhere over my outer thigh — useless. On these it sits right on the bone. Where it should be. Where it's supposed to be if anyone designing the pant had ever asked a woman.

How do these compare to a regular pair of jeans in a crash?

Standard cotton denim fails in under a second of contact with asphalt — that's documented in independent abrasion research. Aramid materials of the class used in True Element are documented to offer roughly seven times the abrasion resistance of standard cotton. Our jeans are certified to EN 17092 Class AA — the second-highest motorcycle apparel classification in the European standard. That's a whole-garment rating, not a panel rating.

 

The honest version: nothing prevents injury. Gear like this dramatically changes what kind of injury you walk away with.

Why are these $239.99 when I can find "riding jeans" for $90?

Two reasons.

 

The lining. Most riding jeans in the under-$150 range reinforce three small panels with unbranded aramid. The rest of the pant is the same denim that fails in a second. We line the entire interior with genuine DuPont Kevlar® — the original branded aramid fiber. That's a material-cost decision the volume tier doesn't make.

 

The armor. The included pads are EN 1621-1 Level 2 — the higher of the two CE levels. Many lifestyle moto brands ship Level 1 and call Level 2 a paid upgrade. Ours comes in the box. That's the product.

How do they feel for long rides? Are they hot? Stiff?

The outer shell is premium stretch denim with elastane — same weight class as a quality pair of black jeans you'd wear all day. The Kevlar lining is woven, not bonded, so it moves with the denim instead of laminating against it. Articulated stretch panels at the knee follow the natural bend of the leg.

 

Realistic expectation: heavier than your favourite weekend jeans because of the lining and the armor. Lighter than tactical riding pants. Most riders report forgetting the armor is in by the second ride. A small minority size up for long-haul touring comfort — that's why first exchange is free.

Do I need the armor? Can I ride without it?

The armor is removable for washing, replacing, and storage. It's not removable because it's optional. The Level 2 pads at the knees and hips do the impact-absorption work the Kevlar lining can't — they're a different job, doing it in tandem. Ride with the pads in. Wash without them.

 

The pads are EN 1621-1 Level 2 certified and replaceable separately if they're ever compromised.

How do I wash them? Does the Kevlar shrink?

Remove the armor. Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colors. Do not bleach. Hang dry — no tumble dryer. The Kevlar lining is woven into the construction and stable through standard care. The stretch denim outer holds its shape across many wash cycles when handled this way.

 

Re-insert the armor before riding. The pad pockets are designed for repeated removal.

I'm between sizes — size up or size down?

— If you ride primarily upright (commute, café, urban), true to size sits cleanest on and off the bike.
